What is Rag?
It is a simple question but yet there isn’t a definite answer for it. Even if there is one, it will be hard to understand what it means. There is only one way to truly comprehend what Rag is all about:
Be a part of Rag!
Rag is an amazing adventure. It is an expedition of self-discovery, set out after a group of individuals come together to form a team and spend more than three months working together. As the journey unfolds, ideas and dreams sketched on pieces of paper are transformed into reality, culminating in a masterpiece that is proudly showcased on Rag Day.
So, why Rag?
Through Rag, we have discovered our strengths and weaknesses as we take on different challenges. Rag not only allows us to unleash our potentials as an unique individual, but also to empower one another by virtue of our different abilities. It is when a group of individuals put themselves together that enable a team to have found a force, a force that guides them through any hardship and assist them to scale greater heights. This would otherwise be impossible to achieve as an individual. Rag is incredible not because it simply brings individuals together, but because it brings them together as a team that aims for the same goal, strives for the same motivation and shares the same heart. It is this journey of Rag that has brought the twenty three of us into one.
Rag is never a smooth sailing journey. There are blood, sweat and tears and there are times when we are hit hard right in the face.
Some say Rag is painful and exhausting. Some say Rag demands a lot of sacrifices and some say Rag entails extremely menial work, otherwise called ”sai-kang”.
Indeed, those are true. Partly true I would say, for the fact that we cannot deny it is the pains encountered and the sacrifices made in Rag that makes us understand all these pains can be eased and all these sacrifices are worthwhile, so long as the team is always there for us to take refuge in. It is the pains encountered in Rag that brings out the strongest sides in each of us, the hidden facets which we may not even know we possess. It is the sacrifices made in Rag that makes us treasure even more the friendships that we have built and the memories that we have collected.
Rag throws us all sorts of challenges every day. But we shall persevere and hold on to each other as we take on each challenge as it comes. The strong bonds forged among us have brought us this far and I believe it will definitely take us further.
As the Rag Head of Eusoff Hall Rag 2009/10, I am blessed to have the opportunity to share my dreams with twenty two of the best Raggers in our Hall. I hope that every Eusoffian will be proud of our Rag Team for their wholehearted effort in creating a breathtaking float that carries the name of our Hall and inherits the legacy of our seniors. To all the Eusoffians, please be there to cheer us on on Rag Day and be prepared to witness probably the greatest performance that Eusoff has ever seen!
