External Relations Committee
About Us

External Relations Committee or ERC in short, is responsible for managing relationships between the hall and external parties. The committee is made up of residents from Eusoff Hall and takes in 20 to 30 members, depending on the work plan for the year.
ERC is chiefly committed to promoting Eusoff Hall to prospective residents. We frequently organize sports ‘friendlies’ with junior colleges, an initiative started last year in order to introduce our hall to incoming NUS undergrads. On top of providing exposure for Eusoff Hall to external parties, we also take great pride in developing a learning culture among Eusoffians by organizing talks held in our hall.
History of ERC
By Derek Ong
There is no previous documentation on the origins of this committee. When I was waiting to enter NUS, I was invited to participate in a soccer tournament organized by ERC. From the tournament, I was introduced to Eusoff Hall and I decided to reside here when Ientered university. My Eusoff life somehow intertwined with ERC and I have thus far been involved with every batch’s ERC.
When I first joined ERC, it had an astonishing number of members who did not know what they were actually doing in the committee. Besides the fact that they were there to collect hall points for next year’s residential stay, they did not know anything about their duties, much less the committee’s. ERC was indeed well renowned for being the slackest committee that gave out free points. When I took over as Head, I re-looked at the portfolio of ERC and decided that ERC should do more than organizing the open house.
As a result, the portfolio of ERC has been very wide-ranging and malleable, changing as and when it suited the hall’s requirements, all the while allowing us to fulfill our vision of promoting Eusoff Hall. As of now, ERC has decided to focus on any event appearing in the work year that requires interaction with external parties. However, one core responsibility that will remain is the open house planning and sports ‘friendlies’ with Junior Colleges or Polytechnics.
The Main Committee Members
-
Derek Ong Lianwei
Head
Derek is a 4th year mechanical engineering student struggling to make meaning out of his academic life. Having been in ERC throughout his whole Eusoff career, it made sense that he chose to undertake the responsibility of leading the “slackest committee in Eusoff” to greater heights. Having to struggle with his external appearance all his life, he understands the importance of a good relation with the public, hence cementing his credentials to lead the team. A firm believer of democracy, he empowers each and every one of his members, allowing them to give important feedbacks and suggestions. Derek also participates actively in hall activities, having been the floor representative of C block as well as an actor for Eusoff’s dance production. Being a people’s person, it is of utmost importance for Derek to relax and chill with his friends whenever time permits.

Lau Pei’an
Vice-Head
Pei’an is a 3rd year computing student majoring in Communications and New Media. He graduated from Nanyang Polytechnic with a Diploma in Information and Technology before coming to university. He enjoys sports alot and a member of Eusoff Hall’s handball, softball, soccer, takraw, touch rugby and track teams. He would love to be able to sing, but finally realized that he is not cut out for it after all the feedback he got from his peers (especially from the eggs and tomatoes thrown at him). So he decided to try dancing, and ended up being part of Eusoff Hall’s dance production for three years consecutively.

Denise Ong
Vice-Head
Denise is a 2nd year political science major at NUS. She is currently Vice-Head of the External Relations Committee and SMC Publications Committee. Also involved in netball, handball, softball and touch rugby, her time is mostly spent recuperating from these activities (i.e. sleeping and eating). An avid reader, Denise enjoys doing readings and is willing to summarize readings for you at a reasonable price.
-
Clara Kwek
Secretary
Clara is a sophomore majoring in Psychology at the National University of Singapore. She is currently the secretary of the External Relations Committee (ERC) and is also an active member of the Eusoff Dance Corps. She joined ERC because she wanted to play a part in promoting Eusoff to others and because of the fun and easy-going leaders she will get to work with. As a secretary, her job includes recording the minutes for meetings, handling administrative matters and preparing documents such as event reports etc for submission. Outside work and school, she likes to hang out with friends and munch on whatever food she can get her hands on.

How XinZhi
Treasurer
XinZhi is a sophomore majoring in Real Estate in the School of Design and Environment . She is currently the treasurer of the External Relations Committee (ERC). Other than playing a part in promoting Eusoff Hall to others, she joined ERC for the exposure she will get by taking up the treasurer position. Her job in ERC is to handle all the finance matters of the committee. Xinzhi also participates actively in hall activities such as Inter-block games(IBG), Inter-hall games(IHG) and Dance Production. She is the Volleyball team captain of Eusoff Hall and also plays other sports such as Softball and Floorball. In her free time, XinZhi enjoys hanging out with her friends and family.
