Junior Common Room Committee

About JCRC

contributed by Sim Yew Yen Allan Allex

From Eusoff College's humble beginning is the 1950s, the Eusoff Junior Common Room Committee was established as the representative body for resident undergraduates. It is based upon the UK model associated with Oxbridge Universities where the JCRC would compliment the Senior Common Room Committee of academics in the administration of the institution. With the official opening of Eusoff College by Mrs Maude Scott on the 1st of November 1958, the course of successive JCRC leaders began with the 1st JCRC being elected, into office with its first president, Mrs Ng Kim Lan.

The objectives of the Hall's JCRC are:
(1) To promote and safeguard the interests of the Hall and its members.
(2) To uphold and respect the dignity & equality of every member without regard to religion, race, sex or creed.
(3) To promote and further academic, social, cultural and sporting activities.
(4) To foster corporate life among the members of the Hall.
(5) To promote Hall spirit and a sense of belonging and responsibility to the Hall.
(6) To encourage participation in projects of benefit to the community.
(7) To provide the basic framework within which decisions regarding Hall life are to be made.

The JCRC Pledge

We, the members of the 22nd JCRC do solemnly and sincerely pledge that:

We will always bear the faith and allegiance to the President and the Republic of Singapore.

We will always strive to uphold the image of the Hall with the best of our conduct and integrity.

We will always work towards the welfare, sporting and cultural excellence of our residents
and uphold the Eusoff Constitution

Brief History

contributed by Sim Yew Yen Allan Allex

With the shift of the University to its new location in 1980, the University administration decided for the building of new halls on campus at Kent Ridge. The first shift for Eusoff College to Eusoff Hall began with Eusoff Hall's commencement of operations in June 1988. The Hall inaugurated its first JCRC with an investiture ceremony in 1988. The Eusoff Hall JCRC also began its tradition donning its maroon jacket blazer adorned with the Hall Crest emblazoned on its breast pocket. President Wee Kim Wee formally opened Eusoff Hall on 5 August 1989. The college would continue to operate at Evans Road till 2001, with both the hall and college possessing their own JCRC working in synergy. Up to the present, the hall indeed enjoys and continues to nurture a strong successive line of student leaders who are motivated, caring, objective and creative in responding to present concerns while at the same time upholding the institution's traditions of excellence and harmony for the future.
