Track

Track

If there is one IHG event that needs no introduction, it would be track-something that brings to mind primary and secondary school sports days, which always involved a lot of running (and jumping and throwing, but the IHG in NUS does not feature field events). Alumni of track and field giants like Cedar, St. Nicks and more recently, the Singapore Sports School might also recall the intense rivalry and the excitement of cheering on their school at the Inter-Schools Track and Field Championships.

In fact, track is one of the first few sports played competitively, and the Olympics used to consist of only one 210-yard foot race, the stade, before it went on to incorporate other events. Thus, track and the idea of running to see who was faster should not be a new idea to anyone.

Track is usually more of an individual sport rather than a team one, but the track event at IHG is all about the team-all the races are relays (4×100m, 4×400m), including a mixed medley that involves both the guys and girls running 100m, 200m, 400m and 800m laps. As such, it is not just about how fast one runs, but how well and fast the team runs together, which is why practices to build up stamina and team spirit are always required.

Reporter: Ee Ling

Ee Ling prefers to watch sports on TV (Man U!!!) or play them on her PSP, but she does also like to play the occasional basketball or netball, because she actually enjoys shooting hoops and finds it a good way to destress. Ee Ling is a History major who really loves her history, but is adamant about not being a teacher. In fact, she gets annoyed whenever people ask her that. In any case, Ee Ling can be quite reticent sometimes, so this is all she will really say about herself…
