Squash Men Captain Interview
MEN: Jian Liang
Jingwen : What is your history/experience with Squash?
Jian Liang: I’ve been playing squash since secondary 3, which makes that about 6 years of playing experience.
JW: Why did you choose to captain the team and what makes you a good choice?
JL: Actually the main reason is that not many people were willing to take up this job, only me and Seng Tuck and he has his JCRC commitments. So as my block head Royston always says, “Someone’s got to do it, so why not you?”
JW: How do you feel about leading the IHG team this year? Any pros and cons about being a freshman?
JL: Pros? Not really, or maybe I can be Eusoff’s secret weapon since no one knows me! Cons, of course, are plenty. There’s so much I have to learn and get used to but I think all in all it’ll be a very rewarding experience.
JW: Any goals/objectives for this year’s IHG Squash?
JL: For guys, hoping (fingers crossed) for at least semi-final maybe? And not to get trashed so badly by ke7? For girls I think they must at least get a gold!
JW: How do you intend on going about achieving these goals?
JL: Practise, practise and more practise i guess. (please tell me if there’s another way)
JW: What do you look out for in a squash player/ player-to-be?
JL: Commitment and passion. You don’t need to be naturally talented or a super athlete, the most important thing is to be willing to learn and give it your best.
JW: Superficial question, but do you think it’s preferable for a squash player to look sporty/tanned or pale/sickly/nerdy?
JL: What kind of question is this! For guys no preference, for girls pretty can already haha.
JW: Any encouragement, inspirational quotes or last words for your IHG Squash team 08/09?
JL: Keep the court clean, trash your opponents. No, just kidding. I barely know the squash team yet so I think I’ll just reserve this to a later time.
